Muneeza is one of the leading employment and human rights lawyers in Canada. She is seen as a leader, a tireless advocate (not at all afraid of taking unpopular positions), and a top choice for someone who wants to hire a skilled and talented lawyer that everyone knows (including her opponents).
Muneeza’s expansive media profile (spanning over a decade) provides a good glimpse of her expertise in employment and human rights law, but also on other issues of the day. When something important happens in Canada, Canadians often want to hear what Muneeza has to say about it.
Where a collaborative resolution is appropriate, Muneeza can settle your case for you. Litigation, however, is where she feels most at home. In her many years of practice, she has appeared before various courts, human rights tribunals (provincial and federal), labour relations boards (provincial and federal), various regulatory bodies, and in a number of private arbitration matters.
For Employer Clients
Muneeza works closely with them to ensure that their policies related to employment and human rights law are enforced and applied throughout the workplace in a manner that is consistent. She conducts a number of management and HR workshops to help keep employers apprised of what their obligations are under the current employment legislative regime.
For Employee Clients
Muneeza has an established track record in resolving wrongful termination and human rights claims for clients quickly and efficiently. Muneeza brings her strong, focused, and straight-to-the-point approach when advocating for her clients and is able to easily navigate precarious workplace situations on behalf of her clients.
As An Advocate
Muneeza has a particular focus and passion on assisting women and those from marginalized communities. She takes a personalized approach to each of her cases, and appreciates how the intersections of sexism, racism, and other forms of discrimination can cause problems at work.
Muneeza also focuses on representing clients who have dealt with workplace sexual harassment and sexual interference. Muneeza’s practice in this area is trauma-informed, and her clients trust her to protect them during what can be one of the most difficult times of their lives. Muneeza understands how difficult it is for victims to experience distrust when they come forward with allegations, particularly when those allegations are made against someone in a position of power.
Muneeza has also handled hundreds of cases involving employees targeted and harassed because of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability. She takes immense pride in being given the chance to be a voice for those who have experienced difficulty in using their own.
Muneeza’s many years in the media translate into her having a special understanding of how to represent high-profile clients, and she has represented many powerful Canadian figures. She is one of the few Canadian lawyers who really understands how to handle cases that require strategic confidentiality and special care. Media personalities and high-profile clients require a unique type of representation, and Muneeza has worked to resolve those cases quietly and painlessly.
When you feel you cannot have the fight on your own, let Muneeza have it for you.
For The Public
Muneeza is also the integrity commissioner and lobbyist registrar for the City of Brampton. In that role, Muneeza is responsible for administering rules in relation to the municipal government in Brampton. In a non-partisan capacity, Muneeza is responsible for ensuring that there is government transparency in relation to members of council, both when looking at lobbying ethics and conduct.
For The Community
In her personal time, Muneeza sits on a board for a Canadian airline. Muneeza also regularly presents and speaks at various not-for-profit organizations about her experience as an employment and human rights lawyer. Muneeza was also featured in CBC’s documentary titled Muneeza in the Middle, which aired in January of 2015. The documentary looked at her journey in trying to reconcile her identity as a Muslim woman with her identity as a Canadian woman. The documentary was widely received, and since then, Muneeza has been contacted on a number of occasions to speak to issues around straddling identities as a second-generation Canadian Muslim woman.
As A Mediator
Muneeza also acts as a mediator, with a mediation practice that largely focuses on employment law (including wrongful dismissal, human rights, harassment, and other workplace issues).
Muneeza has also worked to develop material and teach courses with Osgoode Hall Professional Development on both unconscious bias in the workplace, and equity, diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence. With this background, Muneeza is able to better understand the issues and get to a solution promptly for her employee and employer clients.
For Family & Herself
Muneeza is a mother to two intelligent, energetic, and outspoken (apples do not fall far from the tree) children, and she is extremely passionate about health and fitness. She is an unaccredited fitness instructor who owes her success to her commitment to fitness and the fact that her loved ones do not have the courage to tell her she’s not good at it.
