Janet is the Managing Partner of MBB Law. Her practice involves a wide range of corporate/commercial matters. Janet has been practising law for more than 17 years. Prior to MBB Law, she worked at several Bay Street and international law firms, including Osler and Gowlings. She spent the first 10 years of her legal career at Osler, practising primarily in corporate commercial matters. As her clientele of international clients grew, she later joined the international firms of Gowlings and Norton Rose. Janet joined MBB Law in 2014 and was instrumental in growing MBB Law to its current calibre. Her clients include private and public companies, banks, pension funds and high net worth individuals. Her “large firm” experience, coupled with her ability to deliver practical legal advice, make her uniquely positioned to handle legal matters for entrepreneurs with mid-sized businesses.
Janet specializes in corporate commercial law, including mergers and acquisitions, real estate projects, renewable energy projects, joint venture transactions and commercial lending. She represents clients in various sectors, including real estate, mining, forestry, renewable energy and high tech.
Janet regularly advises Chinese private and state-owned enterprises on their investments and operations in Canada. She has advised clients such as AVIC International (a central state-owned enterprise in the aviation industry), Sumavision Technologies (Shenzhen-listed company), Jinko Solar (NYSE-listed Chinese company), Bank of China (Canada), Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Canada), China Investment Corporation (sovereign wealth fund of China), Jiangxi Copper and Jilin Jien Nickel.
She also advises mainstream Canadian enterprises such as General Motors (Canada), Bank of Montreal, OMERS, Oxford Properties, Royal Bank of Canada, Manulife, Metropolitan Life and General Electric.
