About Lawyers Who Speak

Our Mission

Lawyers Who Speak was created to solve a real and persistent problem: in one of the most linguistically diverse cities in the world, too many people are navigating the Canadian legal system in a language they do not fully understand.

Language is not a minor inconvenience in a legal matter. It is the difference between a lawyer who fully understands your situation and one who is working from an approximation of it. In immigration hearings, family law disputes, criminal proceedings, and real estate transactions, the precision of what your lawyer understands directly affects the outcome of your case. For hundreds of thousands of residents across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area whose first language is not English, finding a lawyer who genuinely speaks their language has always been harder than it should be.

Lawyers Who Speak exists to change that. Our directory makes it straightforward to find a qualified, licensed lawyer in the GTA who can communicate with you clearly and confidently in the language you know best.

What We Do

Lawyers Who Speak is a Canadian multilingual legal directory connecting individuals and families with licensed lawyers who offer legal services in languages including Mandarin, Cantonese, Farsi and Persian, Hindi, Punjabi, French, Spanish, Arabic, and many others.

Our directory allows you to search for a lawyer by language, practice area, and location. Whether you need an immigration lawyer who speaks Mandarin, a family lawyer who speaks Farsi, a criminal defence lawyer who speaks Hindi, or a real estate lawyer who speaks Cantonese, Lawyers Who Speak is built to make that search faster and more reliable than a general web search.

We are not a law firm and we do not provide legal advice. Our role is to make the search for bilingual legal help easier, faster, and more trustworthy for the communities we serve.

How Our Verification Process Works

Every lawyer profile listed on Lawyers Who Speak goes through a verification process before it is published. We review publicly available professional information to confirm that each listed lawyer is a licensed legal professional in good standing.

Our verification process includes:

  • Confirming the lawyer is licensed and authorised to practice law through the Law Society of Ontario’s public directory
  • Reviewing professional information associated with the lawyer to confirm name, firm, and practice details
  • Where applicable, confirming the lawyer’s listing on their law firm’s official website
  • Reviewing submitted profile information to ensure it is accurate, professional, and consistent with publicly available records

A Verified Lawyer Profile on our directory indicates that we have completed these steps. It does not constitute an endorsement of the quality of legal services provided. We always encourage users to conduct their own evaluation and to speak directly with a lawyer before making any legal decisions.

Lawyers may change firms, locations, or areas of practice over time. If you notice inaccurate or outdated information on a profile, please contact us so we can review and update it.

Who We Serve

Lawyers Who Speak was built for Canada’s multilingual communities: the millions of residents who speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Farsi, Hindi, Punjabi, French, Spanish, Arabic, Tamil, Ukrainian, and dozens of other languages, and who deserve access to legal representation that meets them in the language they communicate in most clearly.

We also serve lawyers and law firms who want to connect with bilingual clients and who offer legal services in languages beyond English. If you are a licensed lawyer in Canada who offers services in a language other than English, you can submit your profile for inclusion in the directory.

Our Approach to Content

In addition to the directory, Lawyers Who Speak publishes guides and resources to help people understand how the Canadian legal system works, what to expect from common legal processes, and how to find the right legal help for their situation. All content on the site is written for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice.

Our guides are written with plain language and accuracy in mind, drawing on publicly available legal information and general knowledge of Ontario’s legal framework. We review our content regularly and update it when relevant laws, processes, or resources change.

About the Lawyers Who Speak Editorial Team

Lawyers Who Speak was founded and is maintained by a Toronto-based team with over a decade of experience working with lawyers and law firms across every major practice area, building websites and digital presences for legal professionals throughout Canada.

The idea for this directory grew directly from that work. After years of helping law firms connect with clients online, a clear and persistent gap became visible: people across Canada whose first language is not English were struggling to find qualified lawyers who could represent them in the language they communicate in most clearly. The legal help they needed existed. The connection between client and lawyer was the problem.

That insight, combined with a personal understanding of what it means to navigate Canadian institutions as the child of immigrant parents born and raised in Toronto, shaped the mission behind Lawyers Who Speak. This directory was built to make that connection faster, easier, and more trustworthy for the multilingual communities that make up cities and towns across the country.

What began as a directory focused on Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area has grown into a national resource, with multilingual lawyers now listed from British Columbia to Ontario and beyond. Canada’s diversity is not confined to any one city, and neither is the need for legal representation in the language you know best.

The editorial team brings a background in web development, design, and search engine optimisation to the work of building and maintaining the directory and its content. All content published on Lawyers Who Speak is written with accuracy, plain language, and the specific needs of multilingual communities in mind. Legal information is drawn from publicly available sources including provincial law societies, federal and provincial legislation, and established legal resources. Content is reviewed and updated regularly as laws, procedures, and community needs evolve.

Lawyers Who Speak is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. If you have a legal matter, please consult a qualified lawyer licensed to practise in your province.
